This week for Media one we were given an assignment to use text, photographs, video and audio recordings to create a self portrait. Through these element’s I tried to convey who I am, which is extremely difficult as human beings are innately complicated and thus pretty hard to sum up even with multiple media formats. But having said that let’s dive on in:
VIDEO:
One of the biggest parts of my life is art ever since I was a child and trained at an art school from kindergarten to year 9. It’s an incredibly important part of my life as it has impacted not only my artistic skill but also my view of the importance of art within society throughout history.
Here are some of the instruments in my home, when I was growing up my mum would drag my sister and I to folk festivals around Australia where she would play in her band for thousands of people. Through these experiences I learnt multiple instruments such as guitar, violin, trumpet and the drums, so naturally music is a huge part of my life.
This is a video showing where I’m from (which I took over the weekend when I went home) Newcastle (NSW), it’s an important place for me because growing up in Newy made me who I am today: everyone who lives there is so laid back and friendly; and being able to go to the beach and surf is just an amazing lifestyle which I am craving while living here in Melbourne where everything is busy and sometimes not as friendly.
PHOTOGRAPHS:
Writing and reading are some my favourite things to do and I would love to write a novel in the future therefore I thought I would include a photo of (I may or may not have more bookshelf’s) my colour coded bookshelf along with my plants.
I recently made a geometric timelapse showing me creating this I took over 1000 photo’s because of all the different colours I used. This ties into my love of the artistic process and how it can be intersected with filmmaking.
This photograph show’s my love of animals and flowers…I basically love anything that’s beautiful.
This is from my recent work with the show Offbeat for Channel 31 and it symbolises the beginning of me exploring my future, what I want to do and the important role that film has in my life.
This is to show my love for my favourite musician David Bowie (RIP) who influenced me in so many ways especially with his pioneering approach to androgynous expression, music and his artistic film vision. Of all things in my life surrounding myself with good music is most important to me, besides my family which is why I included the MG car badge that was my dad’s before he passed away in 2013.
In Newcastle I made a short documentary showing the amazing street art for my Screen and Media course so now I make it my mission whenever I go to a new place to find and document as much street as I can, I fundamentally believe that being surrounded by art made by ordinary people just adds to the beauty of our environment.

This audio is to show my love for our environment and how soothing ambient noise can be when you’re having a bad day.

This represents how important travelling is in my life, I go crazy if I’m not exploring new environments or am staying in one place for too long.
This is to show my love of music and expanding my musical repertoire.
TEXT:
So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.
~ Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
To finish off this is a quote by author and filmmaker Stephen Chbosky from one of my favourite novels because I feel like it’s relatable to not only me but a lot of people. I’m constantly trying to figure out who I am and what it is I can to do to make my life better and not be hindered by difficult experiences in my past. This quote show’s the kind of positive mindset I’m striving for.
