Media 1 Practical [Week 3]

In our second Practical class it was time to share and reflect upon the media which we had collected to contribute to our ‘Lo-Fi Media Self-Portraits’.

I was fairly happy with the media items I had collected, especially one of my photos which I thought had turned out really well (looking through the lens). I think I achieved my aim of producing some interesting work. It was great to be able to explain and discuss the images, writing, video and audio as it provided feedback, and a forum in which we could develop further ideas/concepts.

It was also really interesting to see what others in the class had collected, this also allowed us to get to know each other better and ‘introduce’ ourselves through our work.

In the second half of the session, we were introduced to our second assignment: editing a 1 minute ‘Self-Portrait’ video. This was great news for me as I’d been looking forward to getting into some editing projects (editing being one of my main interests). It was time to dust off Premiere Pro and start experimenting around with different ideas and techniques that I could use to create my ‘Self-Portrait’.

Now to continue my tradition of sharing a video every post… Here’s a really interesting and engaging short documentary called ‘Delivery’. I recently learned that Bill, the film’s subject had passed away earlier this year, this discovery leading me to re-watch the film. I noticed that the tone of the film had changed significantly with this new ‘context’ – it was more sombre. Anyways, if you’re into documentaries I’d recommend checking this out, it’s really well made:
