Little Sister

My little sister is currently learning how to play the piano. She is playing on her keyboard in the video. She’s been playing piano since she six years old.

I used to have some musical ability to play instruments back in the day.  I started playing the piano, and moved on to keyboards. I quickly got bored and decided to branch out and began to play the clarinet and acoustic guitar in high school. I found out the hard way that I’m musically retarded.

This video is sort of like a ‘blast from the past’ for me as I used to learn this song as a primary school kid.

Who Am I?

Believe it not this video says so much about me. This video is about acceptance, I have learnt to accept myself for who I am and it’s taking a long time to get to where I am now. It’s amazing what a couple of years will do to you when you learn to accept yourself.

Fighting my inner demons was tough. I struggled with acceptance as a teenager.

This video is about showing things that have that define me.

The Walk

I filmed a bug walking along the ground of my backyard. I stalked the bug for a good 5 minutes to capture the shots required for this video. I attempted to make use of the 10 seconds I have to create a narrative, that is that the bug is crossing the grey line which may appear to be sort of like a bridge.

This video is about ‘several shots of slow’.

Studies in Documentary Film

Interactive documentary is platform that allows the user to partake in an active role in participating as entertainment, allowing the user to take control of the interactive documentary itself through the means of an act of engagement. The authors claim interactive documentaries that “the relations of interdependence of i-docs that they create between the user and the reality that they portray” (p. 131) is new.

The types of interactive documentary that they suggest currently exist includes the conversational mode, the hypertext mode, the participative mode and the experiential mode. The conversational mode makes use of digital 3D graphics in video games highlighting that the technology needs the user to participate. The hypertext mode gives capability to the participant in the interactive documentary in selecting the various options so to link the user to probe videos. The participative mode needs the user to participate in order for the interactive documentary to compile and evolve. The experiential mode challenges not only the users senses but also their perception of the world when they are actively involve in the interactive documentary.

The conversational mode, the hypertext mode, the participative mode and the experiential mode do matter interactive documentary makers in regards to their target audience, the suggested different modes allows the users to be selective. The modes have contrasting yet similar functions. The makers generate a range of options during the production of the interactive documentary for the users to participate in, yet they presumed are to be given a choice when they are selective of the decision that they make as they engage in the interactive documentary such as video games or an art gallery digital installation.

This video consists of a few shots captured using my iPhone 5.

I editing this video using the software program Final Cut Pro X. I attempted to edit, yes. I’m not entirely fond of the shots I captured as I found it was rather difficult to match up the shots during post-production. I would like to improve the choices I make during filming, probably drawing up a few storyboard sketches and follow through with my final decision in regards to what to film.

This video is about ‘fast’.

Egg Head

This is a raw egg which I have decorated with a permanent marker. I drew lines along the egg to create a sense of direction when I spin the egg on top of my kitchen table.

The spinning of the egg reminds me of the game ‘spin the bottle’.

This video is about ‘slow’ movement.

The Making of Hunted

A little something something about how I created the set of ‘Hunted’, the stop-motion.

Yes, the lighting set up is indeed quite weird. Using household objects as my gels is rather strange…

But it works so ha!
