Weekly Update 4

Any amateur film maker knows how to plan and make their own film, but there’s a newfound challenge in running a professional film set.

So, our week 4 was basically dedicated to learning and understanding how a set operates, and how each role works.

In class numero uno, we were given the basic crash course on “HOW EVERYTHING OPERATES AND WHO DOES WHAT”. We each got this sheet which was essentially the instruction manual for everything.

Splitting off into groups, we were assigned to turn pre-written scripts into the real deal, utilizing the knowledge we were fed.

By Thursdays class, it was obvious that we all did a shit job, because we walked in on Paul talking about how we focused too much on the running of the set that we ‘d forgotten to pay attention to the actual production value of the films. Here’s an example:

In this example, the lighting was too dark, there’s too much head space, and there are two focal points.

So, we were given another opportunity to reshoot, which also gave us the opportunity to swap roles, and in this round, we were challenged to find locations that were much more convenient to film in, and focus more on how the video actually looked.

But were they better?

Find out on next weeks episode.
