2017: The Second Coming

IT’S SEMESTER 2, and I’m in Paul’s studio, Box. Yeah, the name doesn’t really give much away, so…

Well, in this studio, we’re learning the basics to the non-basics of film making. The studio focuses on methods of production, such as planning, shooting, editing, and all the other stuff that we’d need to know when putting together our own short (or not as short) films. The assessments are various different short films, each following a prompt, or a constraint.

How exciting!

So, yeah, this is the class that I’ve been waiting to do since I joined this course. So what exactly to I hope and expect to get out of it?

Well, to start off, I would actually like to widen my knowledge of different film making techniques, and get a better understanding of what it’s like to be on a film set. I feel like I already have a decent understanding of how a lot of stuff works, but there are a bunch of finer details, such as ways of keeping organized both on set and in post production, and how to be a bit ore technically competent. I found that when working on Cleaned Out last year, all of my files were a mess, and it made things really inconvenient when editing, so I would definitely love to avoid that in the future.

Another thing I would like to get out of this course is the kick starting of working on my own little short films. I’ve worked on various projects with different people in the past, but I’ve never really produced something that:

  1. Is personally mine
  2. I’m proud of enough to actually show to people

Basically, since I’ve never made my own actual short films, and never had any reason to, other than personal gain, I want to learn about, and experience what it’s like making my own productions.

But yeah, I’m looking forward to it!
