Copyright is probably one of the most important subject matters in this particular area of study. So, I missed a lot of the discussion in the Lectorial last Monday, due to my trains completely ditching, but at least I actually showed up in the end, instead of just giving up and going home! I should get HD now. Anyways, I’ll be honest, this topic has always scared me a little, because the whole ‘legal’ thing is so intimidating, which is why I try not to use any downloaded content in my work, even if it’s loyalty free. It just seems like the safer option sometimes. Even when I was in high school, studying design, I made sure that I didn’t use any brush presets or anything in Photoshop, and so every individual pattern was completely hand drawn and scanned to the computer.
Basically, it’s pure logic, that if you steal someone’s work, and present it as your own, you will suffer consequences. But there actually is so much depth to the whole subject matter. From what I was there for in the Lectorial, we discussed the copyright rules and regulations for different social media websites, such as Twitter. Now, I don’t know anything about Twitter because I’m not about that life, but what I found interesting about their rules is that they have the right to use anything that you upload for their own benefit. This means that they can copy, reproduce, or even modify your work and display it for whatever reason they feel the need to. This is why I have trust issues.
So, I just thought I’d leave you with this YouTube video, because why not? Yeah, it’s Happy Tree Friends, but I’m sorry to disappoint you, there is no gore in it 🙁
