A little bit late, I know, but I just realized that I actually forgot to post this.
What is the ‘controlling idea’ of your portrait?
The controlling idea is my subject’s perspective on Architecture. I wanted my subject to be able to speak freely about his aspirations, while still remaining within the criteria.
How is your portrait film structured?
I’m planning on using the interview as a narration over all of the found footage. Most of the visuals will be from found footage, while some of it will be original footage.
What do you want your audience to make of your interviewee?
I’m aiming to make the audience find him inspiring, and find interest in his point of views. Hopefully, they will be able to connect with him emotionally.
How is your portrait being narrated?
As I said earlier, I’m having the interviewee narrate over the found footage, which will follow what he says.
What role will the ‘found footage’ play in your portrait?
The found footage will assist the narration from the interviewee, and will be centered around what he says. I plan to use it as symbolism so that the documentary is still open for interpretation.
Does your portrait have a dramatic turning point?
I’ve structured the video to have an opening and a closing narration by me about the subject and why I chose him. In between those will be my subject’s actual interview and dialogue. In that sense, the whole thing is pretty straightforward, so not really any dramatic turning points, but in another sense, I’m planning to have a comedic turn.
When does this turning point in your portrait and why?
This comedic turning point happens at the end of the video as an emotionally positive twist on things. I included it because I wanted to make the video to be inspiring and captivating, while still remaining as positive as possible.
How does your portrait gather and maintain momentum?
I kept my subject to maintain well-paced speech throughout the whole interview. I then used this pace as a guideline to follow when recording the beginning and end narrations.
Where will your portrait’s dramatic tension come from?
The dramatic tension will come from the blend of the different examples of found footage, and will be paced with the acoustic guitar track in the background.
Does the portrait have a climax and/or resolution?
Throughout the video, the interview will focus on the subject and his aspirations, but in the end, it will link all of that to the relationship between us two.
