Before I begin, here is one sound that I well and truly… hate. But at the same time, I absolutely love it.
Anyway, one of the blog post topics suggested by Rachel in the lectorial was about sounds that we either love, or hate. And so, I’ve thrown together a list of sounds that I absolutely hate:
- A metal fork scratching against a metal surface
- Children screaming
- Adults screaming
- That high pitched squeak some cars make when they brake (hey, that rhymes)
- Rhyming (not really, I love rhyming)
- Repetitive kick drums
- Chewing noises
- The sound of the word ‘moist’
- Blood on the Dance Floor’s music
- A constant humming noise
- Morning alarms
Okay while some of those weren’t as serious, most of those sounds I absolutely can’t stand.
On a more serious note, here are some sounds that I actually really like:
- Silence
- Wind
- Acoustic guitars
- Electric guitars
- Ellen Page’s voice
- Violins
- Pianos
- Skateboards rolling on the ground
- City ambience
- Lightsabers
- Laughter
I found it pretty difficult writing these lists (especially the list of sounds I hate), because I never really thought about sound being the reason I love different atmospheres. Whenever I step outside and I’m generally just feeling good, I just assume that it’s because it’s a bright and sunny day. But reflecting on those previous situations, a lot of it was influenced by the sound of the wind blowing through the trees.
I guess what I took out of writing this post is that while I understand that sound is an important factor in our lives, it is much more influential than I originally thought.
