Xinyi Qiu

For my research project, I was interested in the differences between the films made by directors from different countries. Therefore, I chose two films for comparison, one is In the Mood for Love which is directed by Wong Kar-wai, another is The Terminal which is directed by Steven Spielberg. I mainly selected the confession scenes in the two films to compare the differences in the shooting technique such as the composition, types of camera shots, angle shots, camera movement, and so on. In addition, from the perspective of the two films as a whole, I also studied the different and unique shooting styles of these two directors shown in these two films. After research, I found that the shooting styles presented by the two directors were very different. It can be said that this is a manifestation of the cultural differences between the East and the West, as well as the style differences of the two directors in the emotional expression of shooting.
