The story of Edmond Dantes’s revenge is timeless. His imprisonment by his enemies is a crucial scene that acts as the catalyst of his tale. He meets his mentor, Abbe Faria and learns of an enormous treasure. The prison scene brings Edmond from a place of despair and confusion to hope and revenge. In my piece, I will examine the same scene covered through more than 100 years of film history in terms of camera, lighting, time and themes.
