We wanted to use satire as public pedagogy, in a way that satire functions as a form of social critique to draw attention to the protests in Hong Kong. We felt that
productive satire in the style of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was the best way to do this, and we tried to do so through exposing absurdities in authority figures, encouraging moral outrage, and a call to action through satire.
The challenge of an ongoing story is the constant influx of new material, and we couldn’t feature everything we’d written or wanted to write about. The final material was written and rehearsed over eight weeks, and was shot on 11 October.
Please be advised the show contains explicit language, violence, and controversial themes.
