Fashion in a lot of ways is about identity; Where what one chooses to wear helps them belong or exclude from a group or subculture, to be portrayed in a particular way or give off a perception about oneself. It is through this that the protective nature of fashion is exposed, and identity through fashion can be seen as a performance. Where a outermost shell is put on in order to guard one’s self from the social climate of the outside world. In a sense this film explores the intersection of identify and a shell. It showcases garments that are all ‘protecting’ yet totally breakable and displays the process of applying a given identity to a ‘blank canvas’ as well as the permanence in this and outcomes of these identities.
