Ray Mooney, ex-prisoner of Pentridge prison, advocates for preserving the site as a reminder our bloody and brutal national history.
Highlight of the studio: When we began this project with our pitch to a panel, the overwhelming feedback was that the potential subject matter was so wide, that we’d never be able to fit it all into a 5-minute documentary. They were right. We originally set out to make the documentary about the strange contrast between the huge, bluestone walls of Pentridge prison – which are now sporadically populated with apartments. When we found our interview subject, Ray Mooney, our direction changed and then solidified. He gave us incredible insight into his time within the walls of Pentridge. With the discussion we had with him in the shadows of the old Melbourne Jail, we could have made this film 3 times over and told a different story every time. His anger, frustration and passion was palpable and it comes across in the film. What we decided to focus on is the whitewashing of Australian history, especially by corporate entities.
