In response to an invitation today’s studio became a writing studio. Intensive writing and editing, with me providing feedback on parts of drafts for anyone that sought feedback. This was to reiterate the earlier comments about changing how you consider the craft and practice of writing, and to help embed this.
What does your essay need?
- I said how it needs a bibliography, and why. This is where I also discussed ethics.
- I pointed out that any sentence that begins with ‘the’, ‘these’, or ‘this’ should immediately say what these terms are referring to, name them
- do not use terms like ‘true’, ‘natural’, ‘essence’, ‘whole’, these are all things that are under dispute in this studio
- if you are using/writing to your neologism (definition) then that needs to be placed at the beginning of your essay
In groups I have invited you to think about your next step in making as either “a convivial making” or “the truculent clamour of things”. As a first step what might either of these mean? (And blog this.) We will discuss these on Tuesday, along with Bogost Chapter Three, and then think about how to turn what this might mean into action, into a way of making the next part of the project.
