A link to Maddy’s final piece.
I think I’m satisfied. I changed the colour grade, but I didn’t get to reshoot anything that I needed to. In the end, I don’t think I needed to- I like how it came out. I like the power of the monologue and the ambient, quiet sound of the outside world beneath. I like the grade; more pale and orange, but nice. Ideally I would’ve liked to have included the protest scene I planned, but didn’t get the opportunity to film the protest itself; however I don’t know if I would’ve had the time in my piece with the monologue to include a scene like that.
It was nice to have experience with the cameras we used in class; I’d never used larger cameras like that, and the huge tripods as well, it was really fun. Also learning how to properly use a boom mic was cool, too. I enjoyed the sound recording, but no so much the syncing.
Towards the end of the semester and heading into our individual projects was when I had the most fun in this class though. I really enjoyed getting into a group and getting to formulate a whole concept and idea for a film with them, and I enjoyed getting to know my group members and really getting a sense of what they liked and what they wanted to film. I’m excited to finish our project and show the rest of the class, and I’m excited to see what my other classmates have produced as well!
We started at the Docklands, near Etihad Stadium, then headed down to the docks themselves before heading to the 1010 building (a very orange and blue building) to shoot. I enjoyed shooting at the docks the most; the lighting was perfect, and the scenery fit with what I pictured in my mind to a T.
