In week 4 week looked at the Radio Diaries group established by Joe Richman, in particular Josh’s Diary. Recorded during the late 1990’s by Josh, a teenager living with tourettes syndrome, the diary format provides an intimate look into the life of the subject and a more personal side to the story. It’s candid, spontaneous and hard to replicate in any other format. We further explored some of the ethical issues surrounding these types of pieces, particularly from a producer-audience perspective and looked at the vulnerability and spontaneity of teenagers.
In order to explore this topic in a more creative manner we chose to replicate the audio diary format in our weekly update. The excerpts in the update are taken from in class discussions, Em’s “Audio diary”, Josh’s Diary (And Josh’s Diary Revisited) and an interview with Joe Richman from This is Radio.
