Week 3 Workshop

By now you should have your blog set up, a few posts (at least), and all the checklist items for Assessment task 1.  This week we’ll start to get a bit more adventurous with our content (if you haven’t already).

Follow the link below for more:

Discuss:

How is Creative Commons different to Copyright?  In terms of how they each work, and how this effects us as online content creators.

Exercise:

Hopefully you brought along some photo(s),  or short audio recording(s) and/or video(s).  If not, record something in class.

Upload (not embed from another site) these into one (or several) blog posts using ‘Add Media’, and discuss how they are relevant (or not) to your blog.  Do you think they work with the aesthetic theme of your blog? Is the content appropriate for what you want your blog to be?  Do they look/sound/appear the way you want them to?  If not, why? What can you do differently?

If you are already familiar with this process, then spend more time considering the above questions, and try to produce some of this media in a way that fits what you want your blog to be.

While you’re working on this, your tutor will come around and go through the blog checklist for assessment task 1.

For next week:

Bring more photos, audio or video (ideally chose 1 medium to focus on).

Suggested blog entries:

  • Discussion about the media that you uploaded (as above)
  • Write about the creative commons license you have and what you think this means for your writing/approach to content
  • Search for cases of copyright infringement online, and write about how it helps you understand good blogging practise
  • Write about your strategy for moderating comments on your blog: what issues do you think you might face, and what is your strategy to deal with them?
