Saffron Newey

Saffron Newey is a visual artist who was born and lives in Melbourne. She work here and studied at RMIT in the 1990s and graduated with honors.  For most of her career, she has worked as a painter in the style of realism.  Within the field of realism, she has been fascinated by photographic realism, historical realism, romanticism. But in the last ten years, she focused much more on digital technology, how the computer has been influenced the medium of painting, because it’s been a radical shift from the traditional  painting oil on carves to now the corporating the imagery from internet  and the way  it entirely different to the past.

Her current exhibition explores the idea of the traditional of landscape in painting, however flitted through the internet. So she has sourced the image of clouds and sea, and has mashed them together to make harber serial college of seasons and skies. She is painting in a traditional way, but my source material comes from an untraditional source. Be in internet and then photoshopped adjusted with filters colors. In the resulting paintings, you see her painterly gestures, but you also see the trace of the digital technology.
