Radio was an area that was totally foreign to me, and I was extremely hesitant and apprehensive about the course. The thing that surprised me the most was how much my attitude changed in terms of the power radio has in communicating non-fiction stories, compared to written or visual stories. Coming from a film and writing background, initially I grappled with the idea of this form of media. I had little to no interest or experience in the technical aspect, and conceptually, sound design and attention to detail was not my strong point. However, over the past 12 weeks, I have managed to not only improve my attitude towards my downfalls and self-judgement, but have managed to go out of my comfort zone and produce pieces I may not have the chance to again. My work has primarily focused on exploring the power and fidelity of ‘voice’, something I have enjoyed doing and have learnt so much from.
