Simple format for Wednesday. Check in to see where everyone is up to (variable). Discussed a few problems, elaborated a few ideas. Then people paired up and viewed each other’s work for 25 minutes or so, and then wrote a response based on: What do you think it does? (What is it doing), make a list of all the things it might mean, and what other things (ideas, concepts, shapes, things, objects) could it also be about. We then went round the class to hear how other people thought about your own work.
The object here was to extend your own thinking about what your work might be about and do. It was also to enact ways of thinking about work that didn’t begin from questions of meaning (but might still address questions of meaningI by beginning from thinking about what the individual projects do. This is not difficult, and involves description. It isn’t difficult, if we watched a football match most of what we would say would be about what players did, not what they meant. Different domain, same method.
