Computers Do Die and Crash

Stranger things have happened. OK, grumpy post. Several ‘my computer died’ emails are arriving. I’ve explained several times how important it is that you you have a back up of key work that is not a copy on the same computer.

This is not about uni work it is about how to use a computer. If you lost files for your employer or company (say a shooting schedule for a $500,000 ad) because your computer died, you would accept that a) you might not find work in that particular area anymore b) it’s your fault (not the computer’s), and c) the entire day’s work probably can’t stop because of your mistake.

So, please think of uni as a job. If you lose work because you have decided that a viable (off computer) backup matters, please don’t expect uni to pause, and slowly revolve around you, while you try to fix it. Uni will and does keep rolling on. Just like work, just like the real world. This means you should not expect an extension because you deleted a file, or your computer died.
