Ian Bogost talks about the two senses of wonder. There is to wonder about something where it is like a puzzle or conundrum. Something to be solved. For us that becomes an invitation to account for it, explain it in some manner. To offer up explanation. The second is related to awe and wonderment. This is not about an effort or invitation to explain or understand as to revel in the wonder of something. (This does not have to be mysterious.) This is found in the colloquial ‘thing of wonder’. Gary Ablett’s football skills, that sunset, how a video camera, production tools, and distribution platform can sit in your pocket. The splendor of things as they are, without having to justify themselves. (Which is also one definition of art.)
Our second ontographs are to aspire to this second sense of wonder. To wonder about without being obligated to explain or account for.
